I think one of the best properties of Oregano is it’s anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammation is the source of so many health and aging problems so if that was it’s only benefit I would recommend it, but there is so more it can do for you.
I will only cover some of the anti-aging benefits on here since I like to keep my posts short.
Oregano the herb that you cook with and oregano oil are both beneficial and can be used internally and topically. Be sure you have a quality product for either use to get the best benefit.
The herb has an active ingredient called Beta-Caryophyllene (E-BCP) in it, which has been found through research to help treat osteoporosis and arteriosclerosis, which are both typically old age issues (typical but not always, people of all ages can have these problems). The herb also contains fiber, magnesium, zinc, potassium, copper, boron, iron, manganese, iron, calcium, omega 3 fatty acids, niacin, and tryptophan, and vitamins A, C, E, and K.
Oregano oil is more potent and beneficial than just using the herb. Taking the oil internally can help improve and maintain the liver as we age. It can also help relieve the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, by rubbing it in. Any area that is inflamed will benefit from using this oil on it.
There are a few side affects and is not recommended for pregnant women. One of the side affects is that it may reduce your bodies ability to absorb iron. So before you make this a part of your daily regimen please consult your doctor, but it will be worth it if you can. Also if you are sensitive to any of the other aromatic herbs such as thyme you may be sensitive to oregano so be cautious starting out.
